Buoyed by the salty waters of Lake Epecuen, in the Buenos Aires province, some 1, 941 people joined hands and floated to set a new Guinness world record.

A video distributed by local authorities shows huge crowds gathering at the edge of the lake before entering the water.

The participants then join hands and float simultaneously for 30 seconds.

The Guinness Book of Records certified that the stunt easily qualified for new world record status, smashing the record previously set in Sun Moon Lake, Taiwan, in 2014.

On that occasion, 650 people joined hands and used flotation aids to stay buoyant.

This time around, the salt content of the lake meant no such paraphernalia was necessary.
