The fans who want This Is It, the first posthumous song released from Michael Jackson’s vaults, will have to wait to buy the album of the same name on October 28.
Millions of fans worldwide sampled a 43-second snippet of the song which leaked several hours before the official stream began on Jackson’s website at 3pm yesterday.
This Is It, which ironically bears the same title as the 50-date concert comeback in London that Jackson was due to begin last July, was reportedly found by Sony staffers in a box after the entertainer’s death in June.
It will be the only new song - in two versions - on the This Is It "soundtrack" album, to be released at the same time as cinema screenings of Michael Jackson’s This Is It documentary, which captured his concert rehearsals.
A Sony spokeswoman said yesterday there may be an EP featuring the single and the demos but that was yet to be confirmed.
Online music buyers will have to buy the EP or album to get the song, which originally featured only Jackson’s voice and piano.
