Mangalore, May 31, 2014: It has been gathered that the National Investigation Agency officials had brought Asadullah Akhtar, the associate of IM Co-Founder Yaseen Bhatkal to Mangalore on May 29 and 30 for investigation into the terror case.
Asadullah was brought to Mangalore by a flight from Hyderabad via Bangalore on May 29, Thursday night. On May 30, Friday, he was taken to various places particularly to Attavar and City Centre area. The same evening he was flown back to Hyderabad via Bangalore. The entire process was a secret affair with even the local police not being informed.
Here it is worth mentioning that in September last year several materials used to make explosives including digital watches, wires, electrical detonators, ammonium nitrate as well as handout on bomb circuit were found at an apartment at Attavar in Mangalore.
Investigations had also revealed that along with Asadullah, IM’s Tahseen Akhtar alias Monu alias Hassan of Bihar and Waqas alias Ahmed of Pakistan had stayed in the apartment. Both Monu and Waqas were accused in the 2011 Mumbai and 2013 Hyderabad blast cases. As both were getting ready for another disruptive act, their masterminds Yaseen and Asadullah were arrested.
In the year 2008 when the NIA interrogated the arrested IM man Akbhar Ismail in connection with the 2007 Hyderabad blast, he had mentioned the name of Riyaz and Yaseen Bhatkal. Later, police had launched a search for the two in Mangalore and Chikmagalur. The tracing of explosives in a house at Mukkacheri in Ullal and some clothes revealed that the IM men had stayed there.
IM’s bomb factory: Yaseen Bhatkal and Asadullah had stayed at a rented house at Zephyr Heights at Attavar for a period of six months upto March 2013. They used to make bombs here and the bombs used in Hyderabad and other places were transported from here.Asadullah had revealed during interrogation that Riyaz Bhatkal too helped in bomb making.
In September last year the NIA had brought Yaseen and Asadullah secretly to Mangalore for investigation. Now once again Asadullah was brought for higher investigation into the terror case.
