Mangalore, May 31, 2014: “I will not promise to bring changes in the railway system within a year, but will try my level best to do so in my five year tenure,” said Union Railway Minister DV Sadananda Gowda.
Gowda who is on a maiden visit to the district after taking oath as Union Minister, was addressing a meeting at the District BJP office on May 31, Saturday. DVS said he never dreamt of achieving any post and was pleasantly surprised when Narendra Modi called him on May 26 at 9 am asking him to be present at the oath taking ceremony to take oath as Railway Minister.
Stating that the erstwhile Railway Minister of the Congress Mallikarjun Kharge had landed the ministry in trouble by increasing the fare for passengers by 10% and 5% for freight, Gowda said the same is not implemented but is awaiting government nod. The issue has to be sorted out, he further added.
“A Railway Minister needs to work 24x7 on all the 365 days of the year and I will do that,” Sadananda Gowda said. He further added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants to have trains to every village and efforts would be made in that direction.
As railway minister, I will work for the overall improvement of the system and also meet the needs of the region, he assured.
District BJP President Pratap Simha Nayak also spoke on the occasion said he was confident that the Union Minister would fulfil the aspirations of the people of the region.
The Union Railway Minister who arrived by a flight at around 8.15 am, later met his mother and sought her blessings.
