Vehicle carrying stolen cattle hits bike; driver escapes

Mangalore, June 3, 2014: Gattikudru resident Rolan who was riding the two-wheeler, and his wife Sunita who was riding pillion, were hit and  injured. The vehicle that dashed them was an Omni, reported to be illegally transporting a cow.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The incident took place at Majalthota, Munnur in Ullal near here on June 2.  Crowds gathered at the accident spot, the driver of the Omni escaped leaving the vehicle behind.

The brand new Omni that was yet to be registrated, the  cow was said to be stolen from Fajir Govanitashraya was on the way to Thokkottu, the driver lost control.   Rolan and Sunita who sustained injuries were admitted to a hospital in Thokkottu.

The driver of the Omni tried to get the animal out of the vehicle just as he was doing so, local people arrived. Fearing that he would be caught, he fled from the spot and managed to escape.  The Ullal police arrived at the spot and took possession of the Omni and the agitated animal.

Officials from Fajir Govanitashraya Trust also came to the spot and said that the theft had taken place when the cattle at Govanitashraya were grazing. A complaint was filed in this regard in Ullal police station.

According to knowledgeble sources, the new Omni was being driven by one Abdul Khader, transporting the cow to a slaughter house at Chembugudde. The driver is on the run and police will nab him soon.
