Udupi chapter of Alva’s Vishwa Nudisiri Virasat inaugurated

Udupi, Mar 25, 2013 : Residents of the temple town of Udupi were treated with a cultural splendor on March 24, Sunday as part of the inaugural of the Udupi chapter of the Alva’s Vishwa Nudisiri Virasat. Sandhya S Pai, Managing Editor of Taranga weekly, inaugurated the unit.

In her address, she lauded the efforts made by Dr Mohan Alva in preserving and promoting the traditional art and culture through a wonderful programme called Virasat at a time when interest in indigenous art is waning among the present generation.

Dr HS Ballal, Pro-Chancellor of Manipal University, presided over the function.NB Vijaya Ballal, Dharmadarshi of Ambalpady Temple, who was the chief guest, said it was high time every Kannadiga vowed to protect and promote  the language.

Dr Mohan Alva, Chairman of Alva’s Education Foundation, in his address, spoke about the decision to combine both Virasat and Nudisiri on the occasion of the completion of 20 years for Alva’s Virasat and 10 years for Nudisiri. He said Vishwa Nudisiri Virasat will conclude at Moodbidri  and the programmes will be held from December 19 to 22.He said there were plans to open Vishwa Nudisiri units in at least 25 nations. He also stated that the programmes on this day were dedicated to the late district minister Dr VS Acharya.

Indrali Jayakar Shetty, President of the Udupi unit of the Vishwa Nudisiri Virasat, Bhuvanaprasad Hegde, General Secretary, and others were present.

Alva’s cultural teams presented a captivating performance and presented Mohini Attam, Banjara dance, Manipuri stick dance, Kathak, Puruliya lion hunting dance.  Maharashtra’s Lavani among others.
