Udupi : Hundreds stage huge protest against gang rape of medical student

Udupi, June 22, 2013: Hundreds of students from various colleges of Udupi gathered near the Clock Tower in Udupi on June 22, Saturday and staged a huge protest condemning the alleged gang rape of an MBBS student  at Manipal on June 20, Thursday. The protest was led by ABVP and other student organizations.

The protesting students also took out a march till the Clock Tower where a demonstration was staged. The agitators demanded that the rapists be arrested at the earliest and sought justice for the victims. They further demanded stern laws to avert crimes against women.

Even Campus Front of India and Girls Islamic Organisation staged protests in the town on Saturday. There were even reports of a minor tussle which was however quickly brought under control by the police. Traffic was disrupted in the area for over an hour.

 The protestors also submitted a memorandum to the authorities to be forwarded to the Chief Minister and the SP Dr Boralingaiah.
