Udupi : Elderly couple found charred to death at residence

 Udupi, Mar 19, 2014: An elderly couple were found charred to death at their house at Karavali bypass in Udupi on March 19, Wednesday.The deceased are Sanjeeva Kotian (70) and his wife Indira (62).

 

 

 

 

Though at the outset it is suspected to be a case of suicide,  police are also  investigating if the couple died due to an accidental fire.

Only the couple stayed in the house. Their son  Vinod was in Dubai, while daughter Rajani stayed in the United States.

Sources said as usual  Sanjeeva had telephoned a relative named Vasanth the previous night asking him to come the next morning for purchase of groceries as Vasanth often assisted the couple.

However, to Vasanth’s shock he found the two charred to death in the bedroom on Wednesday morning.

 It has been gathered that Sanjeeva who was ailing was admitted to the hospital some time back and was discharged  last week.

Forensic experts  from Mangalore have been pressed into service.  DySP Prabhudev Maane,  Circle Inspector Maruti Nayak and others visited the house. Udupi town police are investigating the case.
