Udupi, April 2, 2014: Two youngsters, both 19 years of age, have been arrested by the police on March 31, Monday on the charges of stealing. Gold ornaments worth nearly Rs 13 lakhs have been seized from them.
It is learnt. the duo namely Mahesh (19) from Belur in Hassan district and Manikanta (19) from Bangalore used to visit houses seeking old clothes for inmates of an Ashram. They used to then identify locked houses where they could easily commit thefts and later executed their plans.
Police who were investigating a case of theft reported from Barkur, grew suspicious about the duo and kept a close watch on them. The two had letter heads bearing the name of Shreyas Home for Aged and Orphanage at Magadi in Bangalore.
It is learnt, the duo stayed in the houses of relatives at Balaipade and Suratkal and one of them Mahesh had even shifted base to Kozhikode in Kerala recently.
Police said they were wanted in connection with thefts in Udupi, Kundapur, Karnad, Kinnigoli, Mangalore and Belthangady.
The seized gold ornaments weighed 490 grams.
