Mangalore, June 10: “One must seek ways to construct roads and houses without causing any harm to nature,” opined Minister for Public Works C. M. Udasi after inaugurating the 2-day workshop on Task Force for Quality Assurance in Public Construction organized by the state government in collaboration with the Public Works Department (PWD) at TVR Pai Convention Centre on June 10, Thursday. He added that government policy demands that work must be done according to the required standards.

Speaking about the necessity of being qualified enough to supervise construction work, he said that concerned authorities must supervise development work taking place in the district to ensure high quality of construction material.

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, who was the chief guest of the event, said that, besides organizing workshops, the PWD must also organize technical discussions and environmental studies, which will enable them to maintain long-lasting roads. 


MLA Yogesh Bhat, who was also the chief guest of the programme, said that the chief minister has released a sum of Rs 100 crore to concretize the roads of Mangalore; therefore the civic bodies must maintain transparency and accountability. He also said that a doctor might kill only one person with his mistakes; but an engineer’s mistakes can destroy thousands of innocent lives, making an engineer more responsible toward society. 


The MLA also said that the minister of public works and the chief minister have jointly decided to constitute a task force to monitor implementation and execution of government projects and to enhance and maintain its quality.


Mayor Rajani Dugganna, N. Lakshman Rao Peshve, B. R. Srinivasamurthy, S. S. Bavikatti, Chairman Dr. C. S. Vishwanath, Superintendent Engineer of PWD B. S. Balakrishna, and others were also present for the inauguration programme.
