New Delhi, March 25:  Tehseen Akhtar, an accused in several terror attacks including the blasts targeting Narendra Modi’s rally in Patna last year, has been arrested by the Delhi police.

Tehseen, 23, is a top operative of the terror group Indian Mujahideen, and was heading it since the arrest of Yasin Bhatkal in August.  He is the last known top leader of the outfit in India.

Sources say Tehseen’s arrest is a major blow for the Indian Mujahideen as it is currently without a leader. Most of its operatives are in jail.

He is believed to be the mastermind of the attacks at Patna’s Gandhi Maidan, just before Mr Modi ’s rally on October 27.

Tehseen, also known as Monu, is also believed to have planted the bombs that exploded in Varanasi in 2010, leaving two people dead and nearly 40 injured. He is also an accused in the blasts in Bodh Gaya and Hyderabad’s Dilsukhnagar last year.

Known to be tech savvy and an expert in bomb-making, Tehseen had managed to avoid arrest for almost a year.

This is the second major terror arrest in as many days.

Barkat Ali, an alleged accomplice of suspected Indian Mujahideen terrorist Mohd Sakib Ansari, was arrested in Jodhpur after a two-day chase involving several police teams.
