Sullia: Accused arrested in the attack on Waheeda, Ismail couple

Sullia, May 1, 2014: Sullia police have arrested  a person named Siddique in connection with the  attempt on the lives of  Waheeda Ismail and her husband Ismail Nelyamajalu, both  Congress leaders.

 It is suspected that a previous enmity over land dispute  is the reason behind the brutal attack at Gandhinagar in Sullia on April 30, Wednesday afternoon.

It is learnt Waheeda was first attacked when she had alighted from her  car near the Sullia Minorities Multi-Purpose Co-operative Society to hand over a photo of her. She works as a director of the Society. No sooner she alighted from the car, Siddique attacked her. Siddique later attacked  Ismail who was sitting in a  nearby shop. Finally those around caught hold of Siddique  who was eventually arrested.

Both were rushed to KVG Hospital where Waheeda underwent a surgery for her injuries in the chest. Later she was shifted to a hospital in Mangalore.
The accused Siddique runs a hotel in Goa and hails from Bellare. It is said both Siddique and Ismail who were close friends had turned enemies over land dispute.
