Sports Promoters Club honors three people with Sports Plus Awards

Mangalore, August 15, 2011: Vijayanath Vittal Shetty, Jeppu Chidananda Naik, Rakesh Malli received the Sports Plus awards 2011 for their contributions to sports in Dakshina Kannada district, from India’s famous hockey player Dhanraj Pillay.


The awards were conferred on the three at a prize distribution ceremony held at Nehru Maidan on the occasion of the 15th Independence Cup Cricket Tournament organized by the Sports Promoters Club. Dhanraj Pillay was one of the chief guests of the event.

Speaking on the occasion, Pillay said that he would like to attend the tournament every year and expressed hopes that a hockey ground will also be set up near the proposed cricket stadium in DK. He said that he wants hockey to gain prominence in India along with cricket.


Dr. Chennappa Gowda, the deputy commissioner of DK, who was also a chief guest at the event, said that the district administration has taken the initiative of building an international level cricket stadium near Mangalore. He urged the public and various sports organization to support the project.


Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh, Karnataka Bank MD Jayaram Bhat, and many others were also present.
