Kundapur, July 14, 2014: Udupi District in-charge Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake on July 13, visited the residence of Ratna Kottari (17) who was found dead days after she went missing while returning from the Shiroor Government Pre-University College. Ratna was a First PUC student.
The Minister met the grieving parents of Ratna-Shanker Kottari and Saaku Kottarthi at their house at Konanamakki Beerubailu in Alandoor of Yedtare village, and assured justice after an impartial investigation into the case.
Later speaking to reporters, the minister said the police have been directed to undertake a thorough probe into the case and added the investigation is underway. He also said talks will be held with the government on the issue of providing compensation to the bereaved family.
Earlier, villagers met at the Alandoor Higher Primary School of which Ratna was an alumnus. Later, Gram Panchayat Member Uday Poojary submitted a memorandum to the minister on behalf of the villagers.
SP Boralingaiah who was also present, said the body of Ratna was subject to a post-mortem and that initial reports do not mention of rape or murder. He also stated that higher examination will be done as the body was decomposed when it was found.
On this occasion, a compensation of Rs 25000 was provided to the family of Ratna on behalf of the Udupi District Kottari Sangha.
