She said that it’s always a delight to come back to beautiful and historic Mangalore. The reputation of the region which has given birth to several religious leaders, scholars and philosophers has been tarnished due to the communal disturbances, she said.

She said that "The BJP has completely ignored your mandate, they have completely betrayed the mandate of the people of Karnataka", she charged, as she attacked the government on various fronts, including the "breakdown" of the law and order.

On illegal mining scam in Karnataka, she said the mining mafia has destroyed environment, and charged the BJP government with serving only its "narrow and selfish political ends".

She said there was a time when industries competed with one another to invest in Karnataka but the situation now is "opposite". Now the industries are leaving Karnataka because of corruption, government interference and infrastructure issues, she said. The youths of the state are deprived of the jobs due to this, she added.

Mrs Gandhi said that people must cast their votes for the party to form the government which provides them the job, security and protection, but the BJP led government has always landed the farmers and fishermen in distress, she added.

Gandhi said the immediate task for the Congress in the state is to restore the image of Karnataka as a "bright state" of the country. "Congress will ensure that Karnataka thrives and prospers," she added.

Noting that Karnataka has had a glorious past and brighter future waiting, she said this is possible only if there is political stability. "Therefore this political stability is essential. A stable government is need of the hour for Karnataka".

KPCC President Parameshwar welcomed the guests and gathering. He also said that BJP government has given 30 lakh illegal BPL cards. They assured to give rice for Rs 2, but they did not keep their promise, he added. But if Congress come into power, people will be give 30 kgs of rice at the cost of Rs one  each. It will also assure to give the subsidy of Rs 4 to the milk producers in the state, he added.

Senior Indian National Congress leader and AICC General Secretary Oscar Fernandes, Congress leader Ambika Soni, Congress General Secretary Madhusudan Mistry and former union minister B Janardhan Poojary were present.
