Mangalore, March 01: Reliable sources have revealed that the Railway Ministry has approved a master plan worth Rs. 80 crore to modernize the Mangalore Central Railway Station. Since this piece of news closely follows the step motherly treatment meted to coastal Karnataka during the railway budget last week, it is very difficult to believe.

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel has received a written response to his query in the Lok Sabha, according to which Rs. 80.60 crore will be sanctioned for the modernization of the Central Railway Station. The Railway Ministry also said that work has already commenced.

The Central Railway Station will be subjected to an extensive facelift, as part of which it will be upgraded and modernized, fitted with extensive lighting, given a brand new booking office with coach information facilities and automated systems. The Railway Minister has informed Mr. Kateel that this work will be completed by March 2012.

According to a business source, the Railway Ministry might have provided this information long before the budget presentation and that it was leaked to the media at this time to satisfy the people of the region, who resented the step motherly treatment meted to them.
