Rs 48 cr released for temporary solution to sea erosion problem: Babu Rao Chinchanasur

Mangalore, June 21, 2014 :  State Minister for Ports and  Inland Transport Babu Rao Chinchanasur has  said a sum of Rs 48 crore has been released by the state government  as an immediate measure for temporary solution to the problem of sea erosion  that has cropped up in various places  across the coastal line in the state.

The Minister was speaking to reporters after visiting the sea erosion affected areas of Ullal, Kotepura, Uchila and Mogaveerapatna along with local MLA and State Health Minister UT Khader on June 20, Friday. The Minister also informed that the foundation for the permanent sea wall construction works at a cost of Rs 911 crore with ADB aid will be  laid in October in the presence of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

He also informed that the project from Talapady to Karwar would be completed in the next eight years.  The tender process is nearing completion, he further added.

Admitting that the problem of sea erosion was acute this year when compared to previous year, the minister directed officials to take precautionary and preventive measures on a war footing.
