Rape accused man swollos poison dies at hospital

Udupi, Aug 24, 2014 :  ASP Annamalai told media that the accused Jaggu Harijan, a 40-year-old man accused of raping a 25-year-old mentally challenged girl, died after by consuming poison when police tried to arrest him, in Karkala on August 23.

  A resident of Mala village, a daily wage worker, was wanted by the police after the mother of the victim from Nallur near Bajagoli in Karkala taluk had complained to the police, that the girl was raped by the accused when she was alone at home on August 21. The victim disclosed the matter to her mother after she went through harrowing time.

After the accused learnt that police were looking out for him, he kept a bottle of poison with him and went missing. When police managed to trace him, he swolled the poison. Though the police rushed him to Wenlock hospital in Mangalore, he died at night in the hospital.  A case is on at Karkala rural police station.
