Rai directs DC to hasten tender process for proposed Pumpwell bus terminus

Mangalore, June 1, 2014: DK District in-charge Minister B Ramanatha Rai has instructed the Deputy Commissioner to hasten the tender process for the proposed private city and service bus terminus at Pumpwell.

Addressing a district level progress review meeting at the DC office on May 31, Saturday, the minister also said that priority should be given to provide all basic infrastructural facilities at the bus terminus. Similarly, sites should also be identified for bus terminuses at Suratkal and Talapady.

Rai asked the DC to convene a meeting of the affected people as well as the authorities concerned  to discuss the issue pertaining to compensation to  the people displaced by the AMR Dam project on the banks of the River Netravathi at Bantwal. He directed the DC to visit the affected areas. Though a first round meeting has been already held, another meeting should be held to distribute compensation, Rai said.

Bantwal Tahsildar Malleswamy gave details about the damage caused to local farm lands and houses when the water in the dam reaches a height of 19.2 meters.

The Minister, referring to the problem of sea erosion, asked officials to immediately respond to the problems of the people affected by erosion during monsoons.

KSRTC Divisional Controller Mahesh informed that under NURM project 35 buses have been sanctioned for Mangalore and 30 to Udupi. He also stated  applications have been submitted for permit to operate buses from Mangalore to Ullal, Katipalla, Talapady, Bajpe, Sshaktinagar  and Krishnapura under NURM.

MCC Commissioner Ajith Kumar Hegde, MLA Moidin Bava, SP Dr Sharanappa, Sadashiva Prabhu and other officials were concerned.
