R Hitendra takes charge as City Police Commissioner

Mangalore, Dec 16, 2013: R Hitendra took charge as the City police commissioner of Mangalore in a ceremony held at the police commissionerate office on December 16, Monday.

Outgoing commissioner Manish Karbikar, who has been transferred on promotion as DIG of Karnataka State Reserve Police handed over the charge to Hitendra.

Speaking on the occasion, Hitendra said that city has been witnessed large number of communal violence and underworld activities taking place, hence there is necessary to study the situation and take appropriate measures to control it.

Speaking on conflicts among jail inmates he said that jail inmates have split into three main groups, hence they have been separated. It is not possible to shift everyone to Bellary or Bangalore prisons, since they have to appear for court proceeding in Mangalore. City court is installed with video conference facility and this will be a problem further.

The new Mangalore Police Commissioner is a 1996 batch officer and hails from Kolar.

Before being appointed as Commissioner he was serving as DIG of Anti-Corruption Department under CBI from 2006 to 2013. He has even won the Police Medal for Meritorious Service last year.
