Puttur, August 15, 2012: A Syro-Malankara Catholic priest, based in Kerala, was arrested for allegedly insulting the national flag at the Bishop’s House in Parladka in Puttur on August 15, Wednesday.
Reportedly, Fr. Vincent, the assistant priest, hoisted the flag on the occasion of Independence Day when the bishop was away. But the flag post had a cross at the top and the flag was not hoisted in the prescribed manner. Besides, a clothes line was used to hoist the flag.
Reportedly, the priest was taken to the tahsildar for interrogation. The Puttur police have registered a case.
