Puttana urges voters to vote for S. L. Bhoje Gowda

Mangalore, May 21, 2012: MLC B. Puttanna urged voters to vote for S. L. Bhoje Gowda, who is contesting the legislative council elections from the south-west graduates’ constituency, and Panchakshari, who is contesting for the same from the south-west teachers’ constituency.

Addressing reporters at a press conference held in Hotel Woodlands on May 21, Monday, he said that D. H. Shankaramurthy, the chairperson of the state legislative council, and Ganesh Karnik, both BJP candidates for the legislative council elections, have failed to understand and solve the problems of teachers and educated youth and have done nothing for their welfare for the past four terms. The duo have neither achieved anything nor organized any program related to education in DK, he added.

 

Listing out the achievements of the JD (S) during the tenure of H. D. Kumaraswamy, he said that the state JD (S) government had established 180 new first grade colleges, 625 pre university colleges, and 1,045 high schools, including a medical college, a nursing college, and a physiotherapy college. Mr. Kumaraswamy had also solved teachers’ salary problems, he added.

He also said that he would appeal to the high court to postpone the legislative council elections from teachers’ and graduates’ constituencies, which is scheduled to be held on June 10, because those answering the test for posts of lecturers in government pre-university colleges will not be able to cast their votes as the test will be held from June 9 to June 15.

JD (S) leaders Vasanth Poojary, M. G. Hegde, D. M. Aslam, and Sushil Noronha were also present.
