Punith suicide case takes new twist Mangalore, March 27, 2014: There has been a new twist to the suicide attempt of a young pair, both I PUC students of a private college in the city. If the girl had managed to survive the suicide attempt and return home, the boy Punith (17) who went missing was found dead.

The girl who had earlier said that she and Punith had jumped into the break waters at Panambur on March 24, as both were in love, has now backtracked and had reportedly told the police that Punith who was in love with her used to often threaten her to end  his life if she did not reciprocate his love.

It is learnt, on March 23, the two had left home and Punith who had not fared well in his final exams and had a fear that he would fail, had pressurised her to commit suicide along with him as she would be promoted and he would remain in the same class.

The girl has reportedly told the police that though she did not want to die, she plunged into the water and later held onto a rock to survive.

The case is being investigated by the Panambur police.
