Protesting students of PA College resort to stoning; lathi charged

Mangalore, Mar 19, 2014: Tension prevailed at the PA Engineering College Premises at Kairangala near Konaje on March 19, Wednesday after students who are agitating since March 15 demanding the suspension of the College Student Welfare Officer, began to pelt stones towards the College building.

When things were getting out of hand, police were called and the police had to resort to a lathi charge to bring the situation under control.

It may be mentioned here that the students have been protesting against the alleged irregularities in the college and the alleged unwelcome behaviour of the student welfare officer Abdul Rahman. The College authorities, have now decided to suspend the officer as per the demand of the students.

There is information that several students were injured during lathi charge.
