Precautionary measures in place to check spread of MERS : District Health Officer

Mangalore, May 30, 2014 :  District Health and Family Welfare Officer Dr HS Shivakumar has informed that the  department has taken all precautionary measures against the spread of MERS Middle East Respiratory Syndrome-CoV in the district.

Addressing press persons at the office of the District Health and Family Welfare Department on May 29, Thursday,he gave details on the preventive measures taken and said passengers arriving from middle east nations are thoroughly screened at the Bangalore and Mangalore Airports for any symptom  of the disease.

The Department staff will be on duty at the airports on day and night shifts and ambulance and emergency medicines are made available. The Bajpe medical officer has been appointed as the nodal officer and those with symptoms of MERS will be treated at Fr Muller Hospital, Wenlock Hospital, Yenepoya Hospital and KMC Hospital, Dr Shivakumar informed.

Giving details of the  symptoms of MERS, he said fever accompanied by cough, throat irritation and respiratory problems are the main symptoms and requested people arriving from Middle East nations like Sharjah, Bahrain, Dubai, Doha and other nations  and having any of the above symptoms to undergo suitable medical check-up.

District Surveillance Officer Dr Rajesh was also present at the press meet.
