Poverty stricken woman tries to sell her own baby

Kundapur, May 24, 2014:  In a heart-rending incident reported from Uppinakudru in Kundapur, a  woman tried to sell off her very own  baby  frustrated by her ill-health and abject poverty conditions  at home.

The woman is Srilatha (30), daughter of Babu Poojari of Uppinakudru. Srilatha who was suffering from mental ailment after her husband abandoned her, has been residing at her parental home since the past few years. The family which is staying in a rented house has been struggling to make both ends meet.

To couple with it, absence of any income and ill-health of her and her one and a half year old baby girl which was suffering from stomach pain, left Srilatha distraught, She had then made up her mind to sell her kid.

 The matter came to the notice of Dr Satish, Dr Anand and Dr Ranjith of Srimatha Hospital of Kundapur who are also the members of the Udupi district unit of the National Federation of Human Rights.

The Federation has now come forward to aid the poor family and has promised free treatment  for Srilatha and her baby at the hospital. The Federation members have also extended an aid of Rs 15000 to the family.

Udaykumar Shetty, District President of the Federation, Ratnaker Indrali, Dinesh Bangera, Chandrika Shetty and other office bearers were present.
