Police jeep hits taxi at Thumbay and kills woman

Bantwal, May 19, 2014: Philomena Coelho (42) an active social worker was killed when a police jeep hit a taxi she was travelling in  at Ramalkatte, on Saturday afternoon.

According to reports Philomena and her daughter boarded a shared taxi at Thumbay for Modankap church to attend the evening mass.

The shared taxi halted at Ramalkatte to drop passengers, Philomena got off to make way for the alighting passengers, as she was about to re-enter the taxi when a police jeep hit the taxi from the rear,  with the great impact the taxi went forward throwing Philomena on the ground and running over her.

 

 

 

 

Philomena a member of the parish council and also a leader of Sthree Shakti Groups. She was also the head of a ward in the parish.

  She is survived by her husband who is working in the Gulf and two children, boy who recently completed his SSLC and girl who is now studying in school. Her funeral is said to be held at Infant Jesus Church in Madankap on Wednesday at 3.30 pm.


Bantwal police have registered a case.
