Mangalore, June 19, 2013: State Home Minister K J George has said that the government has plans to  provide 20 per cent reservation for women in the police department.

Addressing a press meet at the Commissionerate office on June 19, Wednesday, George said  presently only six per cent of the staff in the department are women though there is a 10 per cent reservation  for them. He said around 18,000 to 19,000 posts were vacant in the police department in State and as per Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s order 8,000 posts will be soon be filled.

Continuing, the Minister while replying to  queries of media representatives, said the Somasekhara Commission report on Church attacks was not presented before the Assembly and  added the  cabinet would now discuss the issue.

On the ASI Srikala sexual harassment case, the minister said that the Commissionerate has formed a committee to investigate the complaint and added action would be taken against the culprits on the basis of the report.

On this occasion, the minister also warned of stern action against police officials found guilty of accepting bribe. Recruitment to vacancies in the intelligence department would soon begin, he informed.

 IGP Western Range Prathap Reddy, City Police Commissioner Manish Kharbikar, SP Abhishek Goyal were present.
