Photojournalist Astro Mohan wins international award for plane crash photo

Mangalore, May 23, 2012 : K. H. Mohan, the famous photojournalist who is also called Astro Mohan, has won the International Jodhana Photojournalist Society (JPS) Gold Medal.

Astro Mohan is a photojournalist for Udayavani, a Kannada daily published in Manipal. He is also the president of the Udupi Press Photographers’ Association.

He won the international award for his photo of the Mangalore plane crash titled “Last Journey,” the first international award won by a photographer in Udupi. Astro Mohan has won a number of state and national awards for his photographs.

Astro Mohan is not only a photographer, but also an astrologer, magician, orator, art critic, artiste, and organizer. He is called Astro Mohan because of his interest in astrology.

He received the award on the second anniversary of the Mangalore plane crash.

On May 22, 2010, an Air India Express Boeing from Dubai to Mangalore overshot the runway and plunged into the Kenjar valley, killing 158 of its passengers and crew.
