Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Kanajar celebrates platinum jubilee

Karkala, May 17, 2013: Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Kanajar celebrated its platinum jubilee on May 16, Friday in the presence of an august gathering including the Udupi Bishop Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo and Vicar General Msgr Dr Baptist Menezes.

The bust of the Founder of the Church Msgr William A Lewis was unveiled on the occasion.

The mass was celebrated by the Bishop along with the Vicar General, Fr John A Barboza, Vicar Forane of Karkala and Dr John Mendonca, Parish Priest.

A function was held in connection with the celebrations at the Kanajar Sauharda Bhavan. A special souvenir brought out to commemorate the platinum jubilee was released by Msgr Dr Baptist Menezes. The message sent from the Vatican by Pope Francis was read out on the occasion.

Winners in Bible Quiz and other contests conducted as part of the platinum jubilee were awarded prizes on the occasion.

Ignatius D’Souza, Vice-President of the parish council gave the vote of thanks. A luncheon was also arranged as part of the celebrations.
