Mangalore, Aug 8, 2012: ONGC-MRPL will donate Rs. 21 crore to the district administration for the renovation and reconstruction of Lady Goschen Hospital.

The new Lady Goschen Hospital will be a state-of-the-art ultra modern building, sprawling over an area of 1.5 lakh square foot and having six floors, including a basement, a ground floor, and four floors. Around 30,000 square feet of the existing building will be demolished in order to construct the new building. The completed building will also have a modern, well-equipped burns centre.

The above information was available in a press release recently issued by Deputy Speaker N. Yogish Bhat, who also said that the new building will be named ONGC-MRPL Lady Goschen Block.

A meeting was held in the DC’s office on Monday and it was decided to invite tenders at the earliest possible.

DC Dr. N. S. Channappa Gowda, Deputy Speaker N. Yogish Bhat, MCC Commissioner Dr. Harish Kumar, ONGC-MRPL MD P. P. Upadhya, Group Centre Manager (HR) Lakshminarayana, General Manager (HR) Susheelachandra; architect Premananda Shenoy; and Lady Goschen Superintendent Dr. Shakunthala were also present.

A year back, part of Lady Goschen Hospital was demolished when Raghava Naidu, a businessman from Andhra Pradesh, expressed his desire to donate Rs. 18 crore for the construction of a new hospital building. The foundation stone was laid and it was announced that the hospital will be ready in a year. Mr. Naidu failed to provide the funds he had promised, and the work could not be continued.

ONGC-MRPL has decided to provide the funds as its corporate social responsibility, and Mr. Yogish Bhat has thanked the company for its generous gesture.
