No suo moto complaint lodged against Poojari, clarifies election officer

Moodbidri, Mar 19, 2014 :  The Assistant Returning Officer of Moodbidri Dr Ashok  has denied reports that he has filed a suo moto complaint against   senior Congress leader Janardhana Poojari for violating poll code of conduct.

Speaking to reporters, Dr Ashok  said he  did indeed  take not of the violation of model code of conduct during a Congress meeting held at Moodbidri on March  16 after officials concerned reported the incident to him. 

The same has been brought to the notice of the Deputy Commissioner who is also the District Election Officer, Dr Ashok said.

Our duty is to only report such incidents but not to file a suo moto complaint, Dr Ashok said adding “ It is true that one of the Congress leaders made personal remarks against a BJP leader. This is violation of the model election code of conduct and not a criminal offence,” he said.

It may be mentioned here that a newspaper as well as  several web portals had carried the news that the election officials had lodged a complaint against Poojari.
