National-level inter-university athletics to be held in Moodabidri

Moodabidri , June 13, 2014: Speaking on June 12, Minister for sports and youth empowerment K Abhaychandra Jain said that all preparations are being taken up to hold the mega athletics meet where hundreds of participants from various universities across the nation will take part.

 

"Those who qualify at national-level inter-university athletics meet will be qualified to take part in the Inter-university Athletics Meet," the minister said.  Moodabidri,popularly known as Jain Kashi, is gearing up for a national event. The government is preparing to hold a national -level, inter-university Athletics Meet at Swaraj Maidan in Moodbidri, in December 2014.


The government has approved finance to construct a pavilion  and 400 mts synthetic athletics tracks on 28.35 acres of land belong to Swaraj Maidan in Marpadi village in Moodbidri of Mangalore taluk. "We have sanctioned Rs one crore for the construction of sports pavilion and Rs 57 lakh has already been released. The work of pavilion complex is under progress. Similarly, Rs 4.25 crore has been sanctioned for the laying of synthetic track. Works of the synthetic track is in progress,"  work is expected to be  completed by November 2014.
