Mangalore, June 07, 2014: With an objective of digitizing the historical documents of Mhamai Kamat family pertaining to 17th-18th century, a memorandum of Understanding was signed between Xavier Centre of Historical Research (XCHR), Goa, and Konkani Language and Cultural Foundation in the city on June 6, Friday. Basti Vaman Shenoy, President of World Konkani Centre and Fr Savio Abreu, Director of XCHR signed the MoU.
Speaking on the occasion Fr Abreu said the agreement aims at preserving ancient documents and manuscripts. He also stressed the need for research to reach all sections of the society instead of remaining as mere books. He said the documents of the Mhamai Kamat family are in seven languages and that most of the documents are in Halegannada.
The function was presided over by Ramdas Kamath, Chairman of Vishwa Konkani Scholarship Fund. Fr Denzil Lobo, Rector of St Aloysius Institution, Pradeep G Pai, Trustee of the Foundation, Venkatesh Baliga, Secretary and others were present.
