Mangalore, Jan 11, 2014: Mithun Rai has been re-elected the President of the District Youth Congress, the elections for which was held on January 10, Friday. However, the results once again surfaced the differences within the party when a clash broke out between the winners and another group which lost the polls, soon after the declaration of results.
A total of eight candidates had contested and Mithun managed to garner the highest number of votes (534). Others who had contested the polls are Luqman, Nemiraj Shetty, Devikiran, Umar Farooq, Srihari, Bhoomi Ramachandra and Mohammad Sadiq.
They secured 252, 185, 100, 85, 54, 42 and 33 votes respectively. It is learnt, other voters who secured maximum votes will be appointed as office bearers of the District Youth Congress.
It is learnt, a clash broke out when a vehicle which was taking a reverse hit one of the members. Police who rushed to the spot cooled down the situation.
Meanwhile, in elections held for various assembly constituency units, Girish Alva was elected from Mangalore North, Merryl Rego from Mangalore South, Nazar from Mangalore, Mohammad Wahab from Sullia, Chandrahas from Moodbidri and Prashanth from Bantwal.
The victorious Mithun Rai and his bandwagon celebrated the victory by taking out a procession in an open jeep, The jubilant party men also burst fire crackers.
