Miscreants hurl stones at Polipu mosque at Kaup

Udupi, May 10, 2013 : In yet another incident aimed at  disrupting communal harmony, this time  in Kaup,  some unidentified miscreants hurled stones  at the Polipu mosque at Kaup in the early hours of May10. The glass panes of the minaret walls of the mosque were damaged due to the stoning.

The  maulvi and a few others were inside the mosque when the incident took place. The Police were soon informed and people gathered in front of the mosque in large numbers in the morning and  demanded a thorough probe.

Senior police officials including Karkala DySP Devaraju, Kaup Circle Inspector Shivananda Valekar arrived at the spot and ensured peace.

Even newly elected Kaup MLA Vinaykumar Sorake visited the place and urged the police to trace the culprits at the earliest.

Speaking to media men present on the occasion, Sorake said  continuous efforts are being made to disrupt peace in the area. He also referred to the instance of hurling of a beer bottle at Uchila mosque on the night of the election day.

Some people were even heard blaming the police for the incident as they felt inaction in earlier cases might have encouraged the miscreants to resort to such disruptive acts.
