Mangalore : Various associations stage protest against ‘harassment’ of lady ASI

Mangalore, May 25, 2013: The District unit of the  DYFI and the Mahila Daurjanya Virodhi Vedike along with the SFI staged a protest in front of the DC office here on May 24, Friday   condemning the alleged harassment of ASI Srikala by ACP TR Jagannath.

Addressing the protestors, Muneer Katipalla, State Vice President of the DYFI said it was indeed shocking to know that a senior police officer who has the onerous duty of maintaining law and order in the society had himself harassed his sub-ordinate woman employee.

Continuing, Muneer said the ACP had enjoyed the support of the erstwhile BJP government during the Morning Mist homestay attack and added that it was owing to this support that the ACP booked a few innocents in the case.He further questioned why the Commissioner could not take action against the ACP when a constable of Suratkal police station accused of sending vulgar message to a lady constable was punished.
 
 
He said  district minister Ramanatha Rai and Health and Family Welfare Minister UT Khader have already been requested to take strict action against ACP Jagannath.



Saara Aboobakker, well-known writer, who also spoke, said  an ordinary woman cannot expect justice and live in a secure atmosphere in a society where a police woman herself is harassed.


Vidya Dinker, Merlyn Martis, social activists and others spoke.


A memorandum was also submitted to the DC seeking strict action against ACP Jagannath.
