Mangalore: NABARD Chairman inaugurates new campus of BIRD

Mangalore, May 17, 2013: The full-fledged campus of Bankers Institute of Rural Development (BIRD), Mangalore Branch, was inaugurated at Bondel on May 17, Friday by NABARD Chairman Prakash Bakshi.

Speaking on the occasion, he said the training in rural banking for the first batch of agricultural engineering graduate trainees of Corporation Bank will commence at the campus from May 20.

He stressed the need for banks to introduce new products for the benefit of farmers.  Banking sector needs people who can deliver better services to the farming sector, Bakshi said adding nation cannot prosper unless the condition of farmers improves.

GR Chinthala, Director of Lucknow Branch of BIRD said 20 MBA students of University of Hawaii, US will undergo banking training at the Lucknow Campus of BIRD in December.

R Venkataswamy, Joint Director of Mangalore Branch of BIRD said  43000 officers from client banks  have been trained by the BIRD so far.

Ananthakrishna, Karnataka Bank’s ex-officio Chairman, NK Tingalaya,  former chairman of Syndicate Bank, BK Srivastava, Executive Director of Corporation Bank and others were present.
