Mangalore, June 17, 2014: Domestic workers including several women highlighted their problems including lower wages and job insecurity at a demonstration held in front of the DC office to mark International Domestic Workers’ Day. Earlier, they took out a rally under the aegis of the Domestic Workers’ Rights Union.
The domestic workers have urged the DC to ensure provision of minimum wages to domestic workers, ID cards from Labour Department as well as weekly-off. ID cards will help us avail benefits of government schemes, they said.
Many women domestic helps who participated in the rally complained that they have been working for low wages.
