Mangalore, October 21: District police observed police martyrs day on Thursday, October 21 at the police headquarters here in Mangalore.

Mangalore City police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police R Ramesh, Superintendent of Police Dr A Subramanyeshwar Rao, Additional Superintendent of police Amith Singh, MLA Yogish Bhat, Capt Ganesh karnik, MLC were also present on the occasion.


The dignitaries paid floral tributes to the members of Karnataka police who laid down their lives in performance of their duties to the greater glory of the country. H R Deshpandey, The principal district and Sessions judge was the chief guest of the function. U K Basu, Managing Director, MRPL was the special invitee on the occasion.


Speaking on the occasion H R Deshpandey said that the police officials are discharging their duties without any fail throughout the day as well as in the night to maintain peace and harmony in the society. They are also playing a pivotal role in maintaining law and order.


He said that it is not only the duty of policemen to recall the services of those officers who laid down their lives while discharging their duty. The public should also express their gratitude towards the policemen who sacrificed their lives. The Police Department provides many services to the community from crime prevention, traffic safety programs, school resources, and many more.


Though they have dedicated their lives for public service, the public makes Police as scape goat at the time of communal violence and blame the police department’s inefficiency in maintaining law and order, he added.


City Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar sigh  read the names of 792 police personnel who had laid down their lives in the past one year on the occasion .


Several police officials and locals also participated in the programme.
