Mangalore, May 24, 213 : Autorickshaw drivers went on a lightning protest near the Muttappan Temple here on May 24, Friday evening after a traffic policeman inadvertently broke the windshield of an autorickshaw.
The incident took place when an autorickshaw driven by Moidin from Adyar was taking a few passengers to the railway station and the traffic policeman intercepted the autorickshaw near the Muttappan Temple close by the railway colony.
It is learnt, the windshield broke as the police man inadvertently hit the windshield with his lathi, even as the passengers were alighting the auto.
This led to a flash protest by autorickshaw drivers for nearly an hour. They withdrew their protest only after Inspector CN Diwaker arrived at the spot and assured to get the autorickshaw repaired.
Ivan D’Souza, President of the Autorickshaw Drivers’ Union who was also part of the protest warned that the auto drivers would resort to severe protest if the autorickshaw was not repaired within three days.
