Mangalore, April 11, 2014 : Charles Correa, an architect of international fame has informed about a special initiative of the Architects Guild named ‘Mangalore First’ which aims at water, traffic and waste management. Correa said the special feature of this initiative was that there would be no political involvement.
Speaking at an interaction programme under the aegis of the Architects Guild at the Multiplex Theatre at Bharath Mall on April 10, Thursday, he sought the support of all Mangaloreans for the cause.
Correa stressed the need for builders to lay emphasis on landscapes and cultural heritage while constructing buildings. Good imagination and a vision is a must for architects, he said adding they should also have reasoning abilities.
He also spoke about his several projects including the Champalimaud Centre for Unknown in Lisbon, Portugal, Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Museum at Sabarmathi and Kanchanjunga Apartment Tower in Mumbai.
A short film named ‘Journey into the Unknown’ directed by Sankalp Meshram was screened on the occasion.
Charles Correa and his wife Monica were felicitated on the occasion by Nagesh Puttaswamy of UltraTech Cement and Christopher Noronha.
