The MCC has already identified around 2,755 unauthorized structures and 2,208 unassessed sites from which it will collect taxes.

Dr. K. N. Vijayaprakash, the MCC commissioner in charge said that property tax helps the MCC generate income. The MCC will assess unauthorized structures and issue temporary door numbers to them under Section 112 (C) of the Karnataka Municipal Corporation Act, but double the tax will be

collected from them, he said, adding that the MCC will collect taxes from unassessed sites when the owners come for registration.

According to a survey conducted on trade licenses under MCC limits, there are 13,426 unauthorized business establishments. The MCC has issued trade licenses to only 22,277 businesses. Dr. Vijayaprakash said that the MCC will collect compound interest from these businesses, after which it will issue trade licenses.

The MCC is 97 percent successful in its collection of SAS tax, having collected Rs.30.47 crore last year. While its advertisement revenue was Rs. 81 lakh, its revenue from water tax was 2010 – 11 in 2010 – 11.
