Addressing the protestors, CITU leader Sunil Kumar Bajal said the moves to privatize power sector only aims at filling the pockets of the Adani and Tata firms.

The Union Government which has been planning the privatization of the power sector since the past nine years, has loosened the government control over the sector through the 2023 Electricity Act. If the power sector is privatized then it would hit hard the common man, he said.

He also spoke about the government’s plans to install pre-paid smart meters from April 2025 by collecting Rs 8000 per meter and added that this was nothing but an attempt to fill the pockets of the Prime Ministers close friends Adani and Tata.

AITUC leader H P Rao, Dalit leader M Devadas, farmer leader Yadav Shetty, DYFI District Secretary Yogish Jeppinamogaru, and others were present.
