Lake encroachment in DK to be checked and documented

Mangalore, June 17, 2014: Chairing a meeting to discuss measures to protect and rejuvenate lakes as per the High Court’s order, on June 16. Deputy Commissioner A BIbrahim has directed the officials to conduct a survey on the encroachment of lakes by private individuals in the district.

According to the land records, the number of lakes in the district is 543, of which 198 lakes are in Mangalore taluk, 21 in Moodbidri, 230 in Bantwal, 78 in Belthangady, 17 in Sullia, 21 in Puttur and 18 in Kadaba. It has been proposed to develop 122 lakes by Zilla Panchayat engineering department, 10 by Mangalore City Corporation and three by Minor Irrigation department

DC instructed the MCC officials to complete the survey work in Corporation limits at the earliest, and take measures to develop the water bodies. Additional DC Sadashiv Prabhu promised completion of survey work and a report within 10 days.
