Kundapur: Big shark lands in Lokayukta net

Kundapur, Dec 21, 2013: The residence of Narayana M Kharvi, the Assistant Executive Engineer of the Department of Ports and Fisheries of Udupi was raided by Lokayukta sleuths on December 20, Friday morning following information that the officer had disproportionate assets. As per information available, the officer owned  assets worth over Rs 1.5 crores which was 133 per cent above his income limits.

 

 

The raiding team is learnt to have seized unaccounted cash, gold jewellery and property records from the plush residence of the officer at Cheepanbettu at Beejadi. The raid which was carried out early in the morning, continued all through the day.

The officer has been serving the department for the past 30 years and reportedly owned much property and several bank accounts apart from two boats. 

The raiding team included  Vedamurthi, Lokayukta SP of Mangalore Division, Umesh Shet, DySP and other personnel.

Kharvi was not at home when the raid took place. The Lokayukta sleuths enquired his wife Baby and son Ratan Kharvi who were at the house.

As per information available the raiding team has seized Rs 2 lakhs cash from the house.

Here are the asset details of the officer: Gold weighing 450 grams worth Rs 3.5 lakhs, Rs 1.86 lakh cash,  Total deposit of Rs 15 lakhs in various bank accounts, Rs 11 lakhs in co-operative societies,  owns two boats, while two other boats are in benami names, owns  three sites at Nandanavana near Byndoor and one site at Karwar.
