Kundapur: Betting racket busted; 2 arrested

Kundapur, May 18, 2014: Kundapur police have arrested two persons on charges of indulging in betting at Rattadi in Jaddinagadde near Amasebail of the taluk. A cash of Rs 8 lakhs has been seized from them.
Those arrested are Sadananda Shetty (38) of Rattadi and Ashok Bhat of Amasebail Mavinakadu. It has been gathered that Sadananda Shetty along with Prakash Hegde, Chandra Shetty and Ramanna Shetty had betted in favour of Shobha Karandlaje for Rs 4 lakhs (Rs one lakh each) against Ashok Bhat who betted for Congress candidate Jayaprakash Hegde.
After Shobha won the election, Bhat had to pay Rs 8 lakhs to the other four and it is said Sadananda and Ashok had place d Rs 8 lakhs in a bag while striking a deal.
On coming to know about the illegal activity a police team led by Amasebail SI Nasir Hussain raided the place and seized the cash.
The two were later produced before court and released on bail.
