Kundapur: After death of newborn, locals blame medical negligence, stage protest

Kundapur, Nov 21, 2023: The death of a new born during delivery at the Kundapur Government Hospital, resulted in a flash protest by several people outside the hospital on November 20, Monday blaming medical negligence for the death of the baby.

 

Jyothi Kharvi, wife of Srinivas Kharvi of Gangolli who was eight and a half months pregnant had been to the hospital for check-up on November 16. It is learnt, during check-up the doctor said there was no need for scanning. Jyothi experienced labour pain the next day following which she was rushed to the hospital. On November 20 morning Jyothi had a normal delivery, however doctors later informed the new born was no more. On questioning the doctors revealed that the intestine had got entangled in the neck of the infant.

Immediately the family members and locals began a protest and did not heed to the request of the local Tahsildar.  Later in the evening, the District Health Officer too spoke to the protestors who declared that they will not stop the protest until the doctor concerned was suspended.

Later, local MLA Gururaj Gantihole too joined the protest. He has warned of giving a call for Gangolli bundh if the doctor concerned was not suspended.
