Mangalore, May 18, 2013: Renowned artist and Konkani Sahitya Academy President Kasargod Chinna and Mobility Training Centre for the Blind, Mangalore received the prestigious state level annual "Vandana Award" instituted jointly by Rotary Club of Mangalore and Rotaract Club of Mangalore City as part of their vocational service projects at a function organized at Rotary Bala Bhavan here on May 17.
Rotary President Rtn Dr Sureshchandra Shetty presided over the function and Assistant Governor Rtn Sadashiv Shetty released the club’s weekly bulletin “Centor”.
Dist Governor and Chairman of Awards Committee Rtn Dr B Devdas Rai in his introductory address said that Kasargod Chinna has been conferred the award for his significant achievements in the field of art, culture and literature.
He said that Mobility Training Centre for the Blind is recognized for their very noble and invaluable services to the cause of visually impaired.
Chairman of Alva’s Education Foundation Dr Mohan Alva, the chief guest of the occasion presented the awards.In his felicitation address, Dr Mohan congratulated the awardees on their excellent achievements in the field of literature and social service.
Replying to the felicitation, Kasargod Chinna expressed his gratitude and thanked the Rotary organization. Secretary of Mobility Training Centre for the Blind Surya Prakash Bhat revealed the training activities undertaken by the association for the blind and said that the contributions of Rotary to the mobility training centre is invaluable.
Dist Rotaract Representative Shailendra Rao, Rotary Secretary Anil Gonsalves, Rotaract President Vikram Cutinha were present on this occasion. Rotaract Secretary Rtr. Prasad proposed a vote of thanks.
