Karkala: Ravi Poojary aides arrested for demanding hafta at gun point

Karkala, May 14,2013: Three Ravi Poojary aids were arrested by the police on Monday May 13, for allegedly demanding hafta from the operator of a stone crusher unit here, and threatening him at gunpoint. The three goons were supposed to be working for underworld fugitive.

 

Nitin Kumar (22) from the town, Guruprasanna (22) from Salethur Bantwal, and Somanath (27) from Guddeangady, were arrested in this connection. The other accused, Siddique (24) from Bantwal Balepuni, has gone missing, the cop said.

The four persons had reportedly visited the home of C M Joy from Mala village in Karkala taluk on Saturday May 11. Joy owns a stone crusher here.

They threatend Joy of dair consequences if he fails to meet the demand made by them on behalf of Ravi Poojary. They left the scene in a car telling Joy that they would return to collect the hafta. It is said that the accused had placed a demand for the payment of Rs 50 lac.

The police personnel, who got the information on Monday that the accused were moving towards Karkala from the direction of Hosmar village, intercepted the vehicle they were travelling in at Pajegudde near Bajagoli, and made the arrests. The policemen have recovered a gun and car, valued at about five lac rupees, from the accused.
